TOUGHEST CHALLENGES?

Achieving sustainable change can be the greatest challenge for an enterprise. Analysis, work on strategy and then implementation, all are a waste of time and energy if lasting change cannot be implemented.

WHAT DOES THE COMPANIES DO?

Some businesses do nothing, but most turn to staff training. And there are many different ways to train staff. Usually it involves some attempt to inspire, which often includes entertainment. It might be fun on the day, but does it really lead to sustainable change? The level of ambition for training courses can be much higher, of course.

DO THEY ACHIEVE A DIFFERENCE?

Not a lot, is the short answer. A survey from the US business, ES Research, suggested that nine out of ten training initiatives had no effect that lasted longer than 120 days.

WHY?

The survey identified following mistakes:

1. Requirements were assessed wrongly.
2. The need for expertise was misjudged.
3. Personal qualities were not identified.
4. Internal processes and working methods badly defined.
5. Training was badly prepared.
6. There was no follow-up.
7. There was no assessment.
